Level 1 Wellington

In 2017, ONZA, in association with Waikato University, is offering their six-day, level 1 course in Wellington over 3 weekend modules.  The level one course can be completed as a stand-alone teaching qualification (certificated by Orff New Zealand Aotearoa) or contribute as a substantial module in a masters-level paper (ALED512: Music Education: Theory and Practice I) through Waikato University (contact Professor Terry Locke with inquiries).

Orff Level 1 training is a music teaching qualification aimed at anyone wanting to develop their skills to engage with children musically.  It is a course that is suitable for a wide range of musical abilities.  Last year’s participants in Wellington included primary school generalist teachers, a NZSM graduate in voice, a  participants with a doctorate of music education, and a student teacher.  The focus of the course is on developing the skills to work artistically with children in inclusive and collaborative music-making rooted in the natural rhythm of language. Participants are actively involved in learning the principles of the Orff approach through lots of music making and creative work.

Dates are as follows:
Module 1: April 29 – April 30
Module 2: July 22 –July 23
Module 3: October 14 – October 15

Venue: Eastern Hutt School, Kings Cres, Lower Hutt
