Orff New Zealand Aotearoa is offering this 6-day course in the Orff approach, which is appropriate to the needs of both specialist and generalist teachers working in early childhood, primary, intermediate and lower secondary school and community settings. The Level 2 course builds on the dispositions and skills introduced in the Level 1 course and is open to anyone who has completed a Level 1 course. Participants in this course can achieve ONZA certification at Level 2.

    Dr. Millie Locke is an ONZA levels teacher and coordinates ONZA’s professional development programmes. Millie has been involved in music education in Aotearoa, New Zealand, in various educational and community-based settings (early childhood, primary and tertiary) for many years.  In the mid-nineties, Millie was awarded a fellowship to undertake AOSA Level 2 (1996) & Level 3 (1997) in Orff Schulwerk at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York. Since that time, she has been deeply involved in the ongoing process of adapting this approach to local music education settings. Millie currently teaches in the School of Music at Auckland UniversityHer current research interests include Orff-inspired music teacher formation, critically responsive pedagogy, and, composition and improvisation in primary school.

    Jo Charman has been a Music and Drama specialist in primary, early childhood and tertiary environments, and currently teaches music at Wakaaranga Primary in Auckland.  Singing in choirs and musical theatre from an early age fostered a love of performing Arts, and the creative and integrated approach of the Orff Schulwerk drew Jo in. Jo tutors in the Orff teacher training courses, the ONZA mentoring programme, and facilitates Primary Schools Workshops, enjoying every opportunity to see teachers supported and music programmes developed in schools.

    Jeremy Hantler is a Tauranga-based, Christchurch-born Music educator who teaches music at Matua primary and Otumoetai College, and runs workshops and bands in the weekends and evenings. He has travelled extensively to attend intercultural music and teaching workshops in Estonia, Sweden, Salzburg and France, and brings a wealth of experience to the classroom context. Jeremy still at the lights in simple melodies sung and played by our youngest musicians, and values the process and benefits of making meaningful music on the way to making aesthetically pleasing music.

    Fees: (A deposit of $200 needs to be paid on enrolment with the balance fully payable by March 4 for the April course )
