Sing, Move and Play with a Story

With a focus on primary and intermediate, school-aged children, this workshop offers participants an
introduction to the Orff approach and its elemental processes. Using speech and rhythm activities as a starting point, we will go on to explore how singing, movement, simple drama conventions, visual art and instrument playing can be used as a springboard to creating artistic responses to a story.

Outline of Program: 

Session 1: Introduction to Orff process. Speech with beat and rhythm activities.
Session 2: Exploring story as a base for creative music making integrating music, drama and Visual art.
Session 3: Exploring story through movement.

Presenters:

Renee Morin has been involved with the Orff pedagogy for over
twenty years, first in Quebec, Canada and then in New
Zealand. In 2010, she studied for a year at the Orff-Institute in
Salzburg and completed a post-graduate diploma in Music
and Dance education. She is a regular teacher for the ORFF
level courses in New Zealand. Renée is currently teaching at
Tiaho Primary School in Wairoa, Northern Hawkes Bay

 

Jo Charman has been a music and drama specialist at primary and early
childhood levels for 15 years and has developed music
programmes for adult learners. Jo holds a Diploma of Adult Education and a Graduate Diploma of Education, in music,
dance and drama from Auckland University. She has
completed level 4 Orff training. Jo currently teaches music at
Sancta Maria Primary School.
