The Secret Song is an immersive view into the final chapter in Doug Goodkin’s 45-year career teaching music to children in San Francisco. In what could have been a celebratory victory lap, the veteran teacher finds his efforts to instill a sense of belonging interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. When their classrooms are shuttered, Goodkin and his students must surmount new adversities and find a way to keep the music playing and the learning going.

Doug Goodkind

Doug Goodkin is a music educator and proponent of Orff Schulwerk. His vision of an education that meets the imaginative, spiritual and humanitarian promise of each child was formed during four decades of teaching music.

Doug is an international Orff presenter, musician and recently retired teacher after 45 years at the San Francisco School, where he taught music and movement to children between three years old and eighth grade.Doug is the author of nine books including  his recently published “Teach Like It’s Music: An Artful Approach to Education”
